Established in 1971, the festival has spent over five decades bringing together filmmakers, artists, and audiences to honor the traditions, customs, and everyday life of communities around the world through the art of documentary filmmaking.

Mission: The International Ethnographic Film Festival “Ilinden Days” provides a global platform for ethnographic filmmakers and celebrates exceptional artistry in documentary cinema. This festival follows in the footsteps of the Manaki brothers – the first cinematographers in Macedonia and the Balkans – and they strive to unite filmmakers, cultural enthusiasts, and audiences while honoring authentic storytelling, cultural preservation, and creative excellence.
