Mission: The mission of the World Anthropological Union (WAU) Congress 2025 centers on the theme “Unearthing Humanity: Critical and Urgent Epistemic Redefinitions in World Anthropologies.”
Its primary goals and purposes include:
- Redefining the Discipline: To collectively interrogate and redefine the epistemic foundations of anthropology, moving away from Eurocentric frameworks and towards inclusive, ethical, and innovative approaches.
- Promoting Epistemic Justice: To address uneven power dynamics in knowledge production by centering historically marginalized voices and integrating pluralistic, indigenous, and localized epistemologies.
- Addressing Global Challenges: To utilize anthropology as a tool for navigating pressing issues such as climate change, technological transformation, and sociopolitical upheaval.
- Envisioning Future Equity: To envision a future where anthropology serves as a vehicle for global equity and mutual understanding, acting as a transformative lens on the human condition.
